US Gives Iran 24 Hours After Tehran Unveils New Strait of Hormuz Shipping Route (X)
Washington: Tension seems to be increasing once again between America and Iran. This time the centre of dispute between the two countries is the Strait of Hormuz, which is one of the most important maritime trade routes in the world. In the last few days, there have been reports of several explosions in the southern coastal areas. It is being told that Iran has decided on a new sea route for ships in the Strait of Hormuz. He says that international ships will have to pass through this route. America, on the other hand, wants the ships to use a separate safe corridor. Tension is continuously increasing between the two countries regarding this issue.
According to media reports, US President Donald Trump has asked Iran to declare the Strait of Hormuz open to all countries. He warned that if this did not happen within 24 hours, America could take strict action.
America also says that Iran should ensure that it will not target any commercial ship. Washington wants all shipping channels of Hormuz to remain open without any additional fees or barriers.
The Strait of Hormuz is considered the most important sea route for global energy supply. About 20 percent of the crude oil supplied in the world passes through this route. This is why any kind of tension here can directly affect the international oil market and the global economy.
According to reports, a meeting of officials of Iran and Oman may be held in Muscat, the capital of Oman, in which US representatives are also likely to attend. Earlier, Donald Trump had claimed that Iran has expressed willingness for talks and America is ready for it.
Trump's latest statement has come at a time when the US Army had carried out air strikes on several strategic targets in Iran a few days ago. According to reports, important establishments related to energy and infrastructure were targeted in these attacks. The US defence department said that its aim was to weaken Iran's military capability. Since then, tension in the area has increased further.
